Slate is a metamorphic rock with a fine grain, it has the unique ability to be split accurately into straight slabs and plates.
The split sheets each display unique texture and colouration, though always with a predominantly grey base.
Slate varies in colour depending on where it is mined as the individual composition of the rock varies between localities.
Slate is particularly suitable for use as a planter as it has an extremely low water absorption index, meaning that it is resistant to frost damage.
It is incredibly durable and will last for hundreds of years, a Foras slate planter is a planter for life.
Please Note: Slate is a product of nature and as such, there will be variations in colour, texture and patina. These features are part of the natural beauty of stone, and ensure that each piece is completely unique. For external products, checking the drainage hole for obstructions as part of a maintenance program is advised.
