Garden Stories – Planting with Lucy – Part Four

planting with lucy

I hope you all enjoyed my previous blog post on planting in the Copper Beech Planter. I’m back with more inspiration ideas to help you create your own perfect cottage garden!

Vintage Wootton Planter
Size(s): 2x Small and Medium
Plants featured:
Small: Hosta – Blue Mouse Ears; Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’
Medium: Verbena Bonariensis ‘Lollipop’; Salvia Nemorosa ‘Caradonna’; Geranium Precision White

So, for this classic planting scheme I have selected the Wootton vintage planters. These 1960’s industrial inspired contemporary planters perfectly compliment the delicate cottage planting.

With clever planting you can create an illusion in size and height perspective. Although It looks like I have used three different size Wotton planters, in fact I have only used two.

In the first planter, I have chosen the world’s cutest little Hosta – Blue Mouse Ears. Its cool blue leaf tones work perfectly alongside the romantic pastel tones of the cottage flowers.

Next, we have Nepeta Six Hills Giant, this is such a top performer and a cottage garden wouldn’t be the same without it!  Offering grey-green foliage with delightful lavender-like flowers is a total cottage classic.

Lastly, we have the medium planter filled with lots of lovely floral interest, ranging from the tall sprays of Verbena Bonariensis ‘Lollipop’, the mesmerising dark flower spikes of the Salvia Nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ through to the charming Geranium Precision White.

All together this gorgeous combination is a perfect illustration of timeless ‘cottage style planting’ and totally loved by wildlife, which naturally supports your gardens ecosystem. I hope you have enjoyed my first planting with Lucy design series, now why not enjoy some sunshine, blues skies and fresh air in your outside space.

Get involved by sharing your Garden fashion statements. I look forward to seeing them
