Where does the stone come from?

Our water feature stones are sourced in India. Foras director John Wootton has personally visited and built relationships with all our Indian suppliers and their quarries. This means we can vouch for the origins of our stone and we know that it has been sourced from legitimate factories with good working conditions and fair pay.

Is the Stone frost resistant?

The stone we use is resistant to frost. We display our product in our own show gardens, running 365 days a year, in all weathers; you can have the peace of mind that you water feature will survive whatever nature throws at it!

Can I choose my stone?

Rainbow sandstone is an incredible material displaying striations of a variety of colours. We understand that it important to own the perfect stone and encourage our customers to visit us at our Stowbridge HQ to choose theirs. We display a large amount of our stock and will help you to choose the right stone for you.

Can you make a bespoke feature?

As we design and source everything in house, we can produce bespoke water features; whether you wish to modify a current product or combine two to create something spectacular, we will always do our best to help you realise your dream.

Do I need a water supply to run my water feature?

Our water features do not require a mains water connection. The work by recirculating the water in the reservoir, this water must be periodically topped up to offset water lost through evaporation. This allows our water features to be placed in any location.

The pumps come with 10m of cable as standard. The cable for the light is 6m.

Yes, we supply extension cables for our transformers and integral lights.

We supply swimming pool grade chlorine tablets which, when added to the reservoir, form a dilute solution which protects the water feature from algae grown. Every feature is supplied with a care and maintenance guide and we can provide links to our own video tutorials.

My pump has stopped working, who should I contact?

Our Podocompact Pumps come with a 2 year warranty valid from the date of sale. In the unlikely event that your pump stops working, you should contact Foras in the first instance to report the fault. You will be asked to return the pump to ourselves and we will forward it on to the manufacturer for investigation. In the case of a genuine fault with the pump, you will receive a new pump within 4-6 weeks. Please Note- If the fault is due to the unit being mis-used, electrically or mechanically damaged by inappropriate use or improper repair by a non-authorised workshop, your warranty will become invalid.

How do I clean the pump in my water feature?

Your water feature pump can be accessed via the hatch in the steel support grill. Isolate the unit before starting any work! If necessary, clean the unit with clear water using a soft brush. In the event of stubborn furring (calcium deposits), a common household cleaner free from vinegar and chlorine can be used. Subsequently, clean the pump thoroughly using cold water.

How should I store the pump if I turn the water feature off?

Thoroughly clean and check the unit for damage. Store the unit immersed in water or filled with water in a frost-free place. Do not flood the power plug.

My birdbath has discoloured. How should I clean it?

Simply clean out the bird bath with fresh water and use a stiff brush to remove any dirt on the bottom of the bowl and any algae build up.  Please note- you can use a very mild solution of chlorine/bleach by filling a plastic rose sprayer bottle with a 10ml -25ml capsule of chlorine and the remainder of the bottle filled with water. Please only apply on a dry day where the solution can be left and the wind is minimal. Although this is a very mild solution, please be mindful of nearby planting and soft landscaping. Rinse the solution off with a hose pipe or watering can.

If discoloration has built up over a long period of time, you may use a jet washer to remove very stubborn stains. To help remove green algae or black mould we recommend a chorine solution. (Cleaning kits are available on our web site, https://foras.co.uk/product/chlorine-cleaning-kit/ ) This should be applied to the affected areas by following the instructions provided with the kit.  We do recommend leaving on the solution longer for black mould and extreme build-up of algae. When the stains are removed, thoroughly clean the bird bath bowl with clean water to remove any chorine residue. Take care to protect your skin and clothes as chorine is a very powerful bleach which could damage clothes, burn skin or damage any planting touching the stone.

My bench has discoloured. How should I clean it?

Please follow the same method recommended for bird baths.

Do I need to turn off my water feature over the winter?

We recommend watching the weather forecast. The odd night of frost will not affect your water feature as long as the daytime temperature is above freezing and there is a continuous movement of water through the feature. However, if the forecast is for a long spell of cold weather, which will likely freeze the contents of the reservoir, there are two options.

Option 1- If the power cable for the pump is not buried, remove the pump from the feature by disconnecting the hose. Dry and store inside.

Option 2- If the power cable is buried and therefore cannot be removed, run the feature through the cold snap ensuring that the reservoir is topped up during this period. Make sure that the pump is in as deeper water as possible to prevent ice damage. Never leave the pump turned off in standing water as frozen water can damage the non-moving parts of the pump and this will invalidate your warranty.

My water feature keeps running dry, why could this be?

Your water feature works by recirculating the water in the reservoir, this water must be periodically topped up to offset water lost through evaporation, which is more prevalent during the summer months and in features with a larger body of water open to the elements (for example, Infinity Serene or Pure features). One other potential suspect could be a misplaced decorative pebble, or even leaf, which is causing the water to migrate away from the reservoir, check all around your feature to ensure this is not the case. An unlikely, but possible, cause of your water feature losing water is damage to the reservoir itself.  If none of the above seem obvious, top up your reservoir to its maximum level, observe over a 24 hour period and contact Foras with your findings.

How do I install my water feature?

Foras will provide all the installation guides required for your water feature. These are straightforward and simple to follow. If you do have any questions upon installation, please feel free to contact us on 01366 381069.
